colourblindness
Many people think that colour blinds are only capable of perceiving white, black and greys. Colourblindness, however, exists in different types.

Someone with a normal view might see this picture.

Colour blinds of the deutan type will primarily see cyan and yellow-green. They are unable to distinguish red from green. More then six percent of the men and almost four percent of the women are deutan.

Protans see more or less the same colours as deutans. But this type of colourblindness is the result of another sort of deficiency. Less then three percent of the men and less then a half percent of the women are protans.

Tritans are missing the blue-sensitive cells in their eyes. This type of colourblindness is rare. Only one in a thousand men, and one in a thousand women are tritan.

The only real but extremely rare type of colourblindness is the one where people can only see white, black and greys. In the whole world there are only a few small communities where this deficiency is known to exist. Its very peculiar that it is linked with an extreme sensitivity for light. Thats why real colour blinds prefer the twilight.
